ndp + kayak!

Yo people, I haven't been updating. Shall do it today!


I had a rather fruitful weekend because I had a very memorable saturday! My Best NDP Training so far because this is the first ever time, I'm actually involved in this big event. I attended a SMU Talk in the afternoon and I rushed straight to the rehearsal. Our holding area was at the F1 Pit. This is also the first ever time I entered the F1 Pit. 


The F1 Pit is rather cool, but nothing much actually, until I saw the marching contingents gathered there. There is the air force, navy, army etc. When they were all in their respective neatest uniforms, the scene was just spectacular. 


Until it's our turn to enter to perform at the marina bay floating platform, I finally saw my beloved bridging vehicles, bracing themselves for the 21 gun salute. I believe the army personnels (some of whom I knew) must have felt damn proud to be doing this (or maybe not?) . The smoke that was discharged after every shot of the gun definitely was large and thick, i can see basically the whole vehicle was filled with smoke for a while, i pity the people. Later, I get to see every single details of the parade. The march pass, the performance, fireworks. This is the first ever time I have fireworks right above my head! The feeling was splendid! It was awesome! I love SIngapore so much. 


On Sunday, went kayaking!Woots! I love kayaking. It is shag but fufilling. Nope not kayaking in the river but outsea!! The $30 was definitely worth it because it is very fufilling! We toured pulau ubin and visited mangrove. Here are some pictures.



Went kayaking with D, D, A, R, Y. It was damn fun. 

I seriously have a mind to join Dragonboat or take up Kayaking courses outside, but I'm worried that my fitness isn't up there. So I'm still considering. Hmm...

Eventful week

My apologies for not updating that frequent lately because I have been reaching home at 10 plus 11 almost everyday. It's really not easy to have so many commitments. Well, anyway, I'm actually enjoying whatever I am doing. 


A series of issues we can actually look into just this week alone. One of the main highlights for this week should be probably the shocking findings of the treatment towards residents in Nightingvale Nurshing Home. Everyday passed so smooth and there came out a video of 2 nurses actually treat one of the residents. Some shocking actions includes swinging her and throw her onto her nursing home bed, and also slapping her face. 


I seriously feel that this matter should be dealt with severely. How can we allow this kind of ridiculous actions to happen in Singapore? Another question to ponder will be, if this abuse case was reported a few months ago, why is the matter only blown up NOW? Something to do with Elections? Well, I don't wish to comment. You guys can see for yourself. 


Oh well, sad things aside,

flood

I finally have time to really sit down in front of my laptop and blog again. I believe the headlines fort the past few days, besides the upcoming Presidential elections, is the recent massive flood in Singapore.

The flood was due to 2 waves of very heavy rain on 5 June 2011, at 6am and 10.30am respectively. Although from the picture above, this kind of flood is definitely nothing compared to the massive flood after tsunami in Japan, or any other areas. However, the damages due to this flood is definitely humongous. 

This seriously makes us wonder why, why are we experiencing big floods several times within a year? The previous time where a few areas suffered bad floods were 16 June 2010. Just barely 1 year, several areas in Singapore are hit by this kind of bad flood again, not counting the small floods in between the time frame.

Do you remember the famous phrase, "Freak floods that happens only once in 50 years” according to Minister for Environment Mr Yaacob Ibrahim in 2010. 

Just weeks after the elections, the new Minister for Environment Vivian Balakrishnan, is facing the exact same problem Yaacob has failed to solve. Despite evidence has shown that the extent of flood wasn't worse than the previous considering the heavier rainfall this time. This is something commendable however it actually shows that the government still didn't do enough to deal with this problem. The problem lies greatly in the drainage system, and it does not help when you only remedy the areas affected but neglect other areas, it is evident that this time, the flood areas were at different areas, thus the whole drainage system has to be reviewed. Could it also be that Marina Barrage is causing the problem as well? I have read that there must be a minimum water level in the drainage system to ensure that the barrage contains sufficient water, this may have caused the flood because the capacity the drain can actually hold is reduced. Well, i have heard of more ridiculous answers such as the ship like structure of the Marina Bay Sands may have attracted more water in Singapore so that the 'Ship' can continue to move. 

Oh well, whatever it is, we are currently really expecting more from Vivian for this matter. I'm not very satisfied with his reply that he can't guarantee anything but he will do his best because it is how the weather changes and he cant control. Considering his high minister pay, and his responsibilities compared to other ministers of other countries with similar responsibilities, where they might have to deal with disasters like earthquakes tsunamis and everything related, his answer is definitely not satisfactory. However, I am still waiting to see how this problem is going to be solved.

In the midst of working and completing my normal routine of my daily life, I came across an article which actually left me thinking, and I believe all of us should actually give this topic a serious thought. 


The article is talking about the 5 most common regrets people usually have on their deathbed. Oh well, I believe when everyone's life journey has come to an end, or is coming to an end, one will tend to think of whatever things they have not yet done or achieved, or ask themselves, do that really want those things that they have achieved? Have they been true to themselves and live a life they really want and not living a life that people expect them to be, or maybe also, regretting working so hard in life and not spending time enjoying the beautiful sceneries in life. The thoughts may also be, they should have spent more time with family and friends instead of being so money oriented? How about, things that they could actually have done that could actually make their lives a much happier one, but they didnt? Oh well, millions of questions to ponder about. I guess, the ultimate conclusion is "What Do You Really Want?"


Or perhaps some may have lived a life so full of themselves, and the world just revolves around them, and has always neglected the people around them, might just end up thinking that, they could actually bring happiness to alot of people around them and they didn't do it in the end. 


Or maybe, some people might end up thinking that they could have actually told people the truth about their character/personality, and and see that they are improved, and not hiding the truths from them and at the end of the day, they still didnt get the message. Or even, a simple thank you or sorry, that you should have said but didnt say. 


These are the kind of regrets they will bring with them in the afterlife, which is actually quite saddening. Thus I think it is rather important to actually stop for a moment, think and plan out whatever type of person you want to be, and follow your heart. Perhaps this might leave you with no or minimal regrets when your life is approaching its end. Maybe, by being very truthful and sincere to every single one you meet in life, I literally mean every single one, even those that you dislike or hate, and hope for the best for them, so that grudges and complaints ultimately won't be the ones bothering you for the rest of your life. Be contented with what you have, and seek improvements.

Yes, met up with army friends yesterday for a birthday steamboat dinner, for luke's birthday. Glad to see them still doing well and fine, and we had quite a great catchup. NIce people, here is our photo!
